Buddha’s Birthday

Today, we celebrate: 2,569 years ago, as his mother lifted her arms to welcome

him, Buddha sprang from her side.

He took seven steps in each of the four directions, and said “Above the heavens

and below the earth, I alone am the world honored one.”

With each step he took, Buddha was living. Lotus flowers appeared.

With each step he took, Buddha was dying. Lotus flowers began to fade.

What a path to take!

Every moment being born. Every moment dying. Buddha showed us the way.

How are we to avoid the same fate?
