Zen Public Talk
An opening talk will be given by a senior Dharma Teacher, followed by a talk and Q&A with Great Lake Zen Center’s guiding teacher, Rebecca Otte, JDPSN. Rebecca began practicing Zen meditation in 1995 and received Inka in 2020. She is a founding member and guiding teacher of the Prairyerth Zen Center in Topeka, Kansas. This event is free and open to the public.
YMJJ Retreat
This two-day silent retreat will be held from 9:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 7 through 8:00 PM that evening, continuing on Sunday at 9:00 AM and ending at 2:00 PM. This retreat is appropriate for those who have been practicing in the Kwan Um School of Zen for at least six months. Kong-an interviews will be given by guiding teacher, Rebecca Otte, JDPSN. Vegetarian meals will be provided. Sign up and registration information will be posted several weeks before the retreat.
Buddha’s Enlightenment Day Ceremony
This is one of two special days celebrated in our Zen tradition, the other being Buddha’s Birthday. This free celebration features a traditional Zen poem by co-abbot, Susi Childress, along with practice and a social time with treats. Everyone, including families, are welcome to attend.
