Heart Kyol Che Extended Practice
During Heart Kyol Che, we offer extra practice opportunities. We will be practicing Monday, February 9-Thursday, February 12, 7:00 PM- 9:00 PM each night. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday practices will be online, and Thursday’s practice will be in person at Unity Center.
YMJJ Retreat
This two-day silent retreat will be held from 9:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 7 through 8:00 PM that evening, continuing on Sunday at 9:00 AM and ending at 2:00 PM. This retreat is appropriate for those who have been practicing in the Kwan Um School of Zen for at least six months. Long-time practitioners in other traditions may also participate with additional instruction on our practice forms. Kong-an interviews will be given by visiting teacher, Kwan Haeng Sunim, JDPS. Vegetarian meals will be provided. Cost: 1/2 day: $40 KUSZ members, $60 non-members. 1 day: $70 KUSZ members, $80 non-members. Full retreat: $100 KUSZ members, $120 non-members. Zen Public Talk
We are pleased to welcome visiting teacher, Kwan Haeng Sunim, JDPSN, to Milwaukee for a public talk. An opening talk, “Why Practice?” will be given by senior Dharma Teacher, Laura Otto Salaj, followed by Q&A with Kwan Haeng Sunim. He is the Abbot and Co-Guiding Teacher at Providence Zen Center in Providence, RI. Kwan Haeng Sunim began practicing Zen meditation in 1986 and became a novice monk in 1999, receiving full ordination in 2003. He has lived and practiced mainly at Hwa Gye Sa and Nu Sang Sa in Korea. He received Inka (authorization to teach) in December, 2020. This event is free and open to the public.
